You can download a particular sample by shift-clicking on it's gradient;
save it and use it to tone your own images, as described in my
tutorial Sampling Toned Images with The GIMP.
Note that the displayed gradient is not the same as the sample
gradient! i.e. don't right-click to save the gradient with the
text on it, shift-click to save the link target!
Alternatively, you can also download the entire collection of samples as
a single compressed folder.
If you find a great toned image somewhere or come up with
one yourself and you'd like to see it added to this collection,
please send me the
gradient as prepared as described in the tutorial. If you have a
particular name in mind send it along in the email message body.
p.s. I am also looking for traditionally (wet darkroom) toned images to
use in verifying the authenticity of some of these "classic" tones. If
you have such an image, I would appreciate it if you could send me a
small digitized copy of the image; it need not be any bigger than 300-400
pixels in any dimension (just big enough to contain the full range of
color values in the image). Alternatively, if you see one on the web,
please point it out. I am currently looking for good examples of any
interesting historical tonings.
Single color/value tones
In these tonings, for each luminosity value only one color is defined.
Each color can have different shades, and there may be more than one
color in the sample (e.g. a quadtone would have four different
colors), but each color only occupies a unique range of luminosity
values.

Multiple color/value tones
In these tonings, for each luminosity value several tones may be
defined. This generally means that they were not sampled from a toned
B&W image (at least in the traditional sense), but from a color
image. To use these tonings the way they were sampled, be
sure to check the "Use Subcolors" option when using these samples with the
Sample Colorize filter.
